The vineyards are planted on steep terraces overlooking the Montsant river valley, just outside the village of Gratallops in the heart of the Prioriato D.O.C. The soil is classic Ilicorella - the schist that this region has become famous for. The Clos Figueres wine is 80% old vine Grenache and Carignan. Syrah, Mourvedre and Cabernet are added to this cuvee, as well. Microvinification takes place in 500-liter oak casks that are turned on their sides to create wide, shallow vats. This allows for regular hand pigeage and extended maceration on the skins. The wine ages for 13 months on a selection of new Allier oak barriques and casks that range from 225 to 300 liters. Clos Figueres has a denser rich ruby color with scents of ripe blackberries and blueberries intermingled with the rich mineral flavors or a great Prioriato. On the palate, Clos Figueres is approachable with pure intense flavors and a lush smooth texture. Loaded with fresh red and black fruit, intermixed with minerals and spices, the finish is lon - Clos Figueres Priorat 2005 750ml -
