A cool, wet spring and unpredictable flowering season led to lower yields in the 2003 vintage. The positive outcome is reflected in the concentration in the resulting wines. Ripening was fairly even during the last of August and the beginning of September. The 2003 vintage wines are soft in extract and show early elegance. While the 2002 vintage wines revolved around dark fruits, the 2003 wines focus more on red fruit and creamy textures that are inviting and easy to enjoy. The Etude Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is handcrafted from several unique vineyards representing the major benchland sub-appellations of Napa Valley-Rutherford, St. Helena, Oakville and Calistoga. By deliberately sourcing fruit from this range of exemplary sources, the assembled wine attains the important range of expression and nuance that gives this wine its depth of character.
